Dermaplaning in Exeter
A precise, non-invasive exfoliation that sweeps away dull surface cells and the fine vellus hair that catches the light. Skin feels smoother straight away and make-up sits flat rather than clinging.

What dermaplaning is
Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical-grade blade, held at a shallow angle, to lift away the outermost layer of dead skin cells along with the soft vellus hair — the “peach fuzz” — on the face. There are no needles, no acids and no downtime.
It is a physical exfoliation rather than a chemical one, which is why it suits people who find acids uncomfortable. The treatment is carried out by hand, one small section at a time, so the pressure can be adjusted as your therapist works across the face.

Your appointment
What to expect
- 01
Consultation
A short chat about your skin, anything you use on it, and anything you have had done recently. If dermaplaning is not the right call on the day, your therapist will tell you.
- 02
Cleanse and prep
The skin is thoroughly cleansed and dried so the blade can move cleanly across the surface.
- 03
The treatment
Working in small sections, your therapist holds the skin taut and draws the blade across at a shallow angle. Most people describe it as a light scratching feeling rather than anything sharp.
- 04
Finish
Skin is soothed and protected. You will be able to feel the difference in texture before you leave.
Afterwards
Aftercare
General guidance only — your therapist will give you aftercare specific to your skin and your treatment on the day.
- Wear a high-factor SPF — freshly exfoliated skin is more sensitive to sun
- Leave heavy actives such as strong retinoids or acids for a few days
- Skip saunas, steam rooms and heavy sweating for the first 24 hours
- Keep hands and unwashed brushes off the face
Dermaplaning — your questions
Will the hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. Dermaplaning cuts fine vellus hair at the surface; it does not change the follicle, so the hair returns at the same texture and colour it was before.
Does dermaplaning hurt?
It should not. The sensation is closest to a light scratching or brushing across the skin. Tell your therapist at any point if you would like less pressure.
How often should I have it?
It is usually repeated in line with your skin’s natural renewal cycle — roughly monthly for most people. Your therapist will suggest a rhythm that suits your skin rather than a fixed rule.
Can I have it if I have active acne?
Not over inflamed or broken-out areas. Raise it at consultation and your therapist will advise whether to treat around it, wait, or choose something else.
